Rosamund Community Garden Update February 2023
a garden for the community in Guildford, Longdown Road, GU4 8PP
Dear All
Spring is springing, and the snowdrops and bulbs are up. At last, the ground has thawed and weβre able to work in the garden again.
This month is important for finishing off any winter jobs and preparing the garden for planting.
Ann sowing broadbeans sweet peas and onions in the greenhouse. Very exciting.

πFEBRUARY JOBS AT THE GARDEN
Edging and weeding the front beds
Clearing grass around the fruit-trees and mulching (manure/woodchip)
Mulching in the fruit-cage with manure
Pollarding the willow by the new loo (weβll cut half this year and leave half for the pollen)
Sharpening tools
The plan going forward is to plant more perennial and drought-tolerant plants to conserve water. Lisa has taken on the project of water conservation at the garden and is busy planning how we can do this by making better use of guttering and water butt systems.
Kate has offered to organise the compost heaps and is currently studying soil microbiology, so this will be a great bonus for the garden. π
π³GARDEN VOLUNTEER GROUP SESSIONS
We are trying to build some regular groups on Tuesday and Sunday pm (2.00 pm - 4.00 pm) and Friday am (10.00 am - 12.00 pm) so if you want to come and garden together, just come along.
Joanna is at the garden on Tuesdays at lunchtime, so another possibility.
If you are in our WhatsApp group, please also use this to check if people are in the garden for a session.
